Toilet Training

Legos for the win! Automatic soap dispenser, the water extension is from amazon and the handle pull is a diy that my husband made for me! The patent is pending. If you would like one, message me and I'll get you a price!

I call it like it is! Your child is being toilet trained!

Learning how to use the toilet(bathroom) is important.

Everyone refers to it Potty Training, I call it Toilet Training.  Your child needs to learn how to use the toilet/bathroom.  Some children learn quickly, but for others it's not that simple.

Independance is Key!  Children need to know the bathroom is a place to relax to go pee and poop.

Teaching your child to wipe themselves is important also.

Flushing the toilet, putting the seat down, and closing the lid are all considered courteous.

Proper hand washing is a Big Deal! Tip: Sing ABC

Celebrate on completion of peeing and pooping on the toilet.  We Sing the Potty Song! (I can teach you it)lol

I'm not an expert but I have trained over 200 kids (I'm not bragging.)  Some children learned quicker and others were not ready to begin.

Remember, a child has depended on their diaper for 2 years, using the toilet is not something they know how to do automatically.

I recommend using a toilet seat that is built in to your regular toilet seat or a removable seat with handles plus a step stool.  Potty chairs are great for personal use at home but I would  not recommend in daycare setting, especially if you have several kids training at once.

Advice for at Home:

The potty chair belongs in the bathroom. Parents have told me they have put the toilet in the kitchen or livingroom. This sends very mixed message to the child.  This is my opinion but seriously your teaching your child where to potty!

Potty training is a process that parents don't always look forward to, most push or want to force the idea.  Your child needs to be able to pay attention to their body signals.  Wait and watch for signs that they are ready.

How do you tell if your child is ready? Ask yourself the following questions.

Can my child:

Follow simple directions ?

Remain dry at least 2 hours at nap time during the day?

Walk to and from bathroom?

Pull down pants, pull pants up?

Does my child:

Remain dry during naptime?

Seem uncomfortable w/soiled or wet diapers.

Show interest in toilet or potty chair?

Have regular & predictable bowel movements?

Bribery and rewards work for some children, but not others.  This has to be on their terms.

Bathroom books & toys must stay in the bathroom; I suggest using a basket to keep them in.

If you have decided to use a reward, find a way to remind your child of the reward.  I use when/then statements. Example: When you use the toilet- Then you get _________.

Do not compare your child to their friends or siblings.

Important to remember every child learns at a different level and time.

Happy Toilet Training!

I have a few cute signs and I love my paper towel dispenser, my kids become very independent.

ABC shower curtain, gives them something to look at while relaxing to go potty.

Wooden boxes to stand on and the puppy provides the toilet paper, the built in seat is the best part.
