In home daycare are not required to offer preschool. I started introducing preschool books and matching games two days a week for the last 10 years. Game based learning has been the most beneficial way for the kids to learn. Children need to know so much more when starting kindergarten.
The kids get their own Write & Wipe Workbook, laminated name sheet, shapes & numbers. Most the kids can write their names in 3 months after we start.
I have several items that I have made or use; magnetic boards, ABC & number puzzles, letter matching games, shapes & colors. I rotate the sheets and have them work together so that they can help each other learn.
Everyone has a assigned seating at the table. It's important to make learning fun. I get excited when I see them recognize letters in their name and write other kids names.
Over the years I have had teachers tell parents that they can see the difference in their child's writing and learning skills. This very important feed back.
I have several families that do not send their children to preschool outside of daycare since I am providing the learning opportunity in my daycare.
Daycare provider's wear lots of hats, I know this isn't required but I believe it's a great way to help your children in your care learn.
Start out slow add a few learning activities and watch them learn. I don't not have any teaching education just wanting to be clear, this is something I'm doing to help the children in my care learn.
Please feel free to contact me for templates and information on the items I use. I use a sequence of letters each month, email me it has been a game changer.
CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM THE LORD; THEY ARE A REWARD FROM HIM.
